A hearty beef slow cooked for amazing flavour! The perfect blend of French herbs meld together with tender beef and onion to create a truly warming slow cooker meal. Finish with oven-toasted cheesy French onion bread on the side for dipping. What could be more comforting!
Ingredients
French Onion Beef
- 2 brown onion, thinly sliced
- 2 carrot, cut in half & thinly sliced on an angle
- 600g diced beef chuck steak
- 1 pack Provençale seasoning
- 1 1/2 Tbsp brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp cornflour
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 1/2 cup beef stock
Cheesy Bread
- 350g Vienna loaf, sliced
- 2 Tbsp butter
- 100g caramelised onion jam
- 100g grated Parmesan
Salad
- 1 twin pack baby cos lettuce, leaves separated
- 1 Tbsp vinegar
Steps
-
Thinly slice onion. Cut carrot in half and thinly slice on an angle. Pat beef dry and season with salt and pepper (see tip). Place beef and veggies in slow cooker or casserole dish (pick one). Toss with measure of spices. Cover and set aside until ready to use.
-
Add sugar, cornflour, soy sauce and beef stock to slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 9-10 hrs or until cooked through and tender. Beef will easily pull apart when ready. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
-
Alternatively, if you don't have a slow cooker, preheat oven to 200°C (180°C fan bake). Add sugar, cornflour, soy sauce and beef stock to dish. Cover and cook for about 2 1/2 hrs or until cooked through. Beef will easily pull apart when ready. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
-
When beef has 10 mins remaining, make cheesy bread. Preheat oven to high grill. Slice bread. Spread each bread slice with butter, top with caramelised onion jam and sprinkle with Parmesan. Transfer to an oven tray and and grill for about 5 mins, until golden.
-
Separate lettuce leaves. Toss in a bowl with vinegar.
-
Serve up French onion beef with cheesy bread and salad on the side. Enjoy!
