Ingredients

GREEK BEEF

  • 550g beef minute steaks (at room temperature)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Greek spice mix (optional, adults)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

HOMEMADE TOMATO SAUCE

  • 1 brown onion, finely diced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Greek spice mix (optional, adults)
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 carton chopped tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

GARLIC LEBANESE BREADS

  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 4–5 Lebanese breads

SALAD

  • 1 baby cos lettuce
  • 2 carrots

TO SERVE

  • 1/2 cup natural yoghurt

Steps

  1. oven to 200°C.
  2. Pat beef dry with paper towels and place in a bowl with first measure of Greek spice mix (if using), salt and half the oil. Rub spices into meat and set aside to marinate for 5–10 minutes.
  3. Heat a drizzle of oil in a pot on medium heat. Cook onion for 3 minutes, or until soft. Add second measure of Greek spice mix and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant. Add soy sauce, tomatoes, sugar and salt to pot and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 6 minutes, or until thickened. Season with pepper.
  4. In a small dish, combine butter and garlic. Lightly spread top-side of each Lebanese bread, dividing evenly between breads. Wrap stack of breads in foil and warm in oven for 5 minutes.
  5. While breads are warming, heat a drizzle of oil in a large fry-pan on high heat. Cook beef, in two batches, for 30 seconds–1 minute each side, until browned. Set aside, covered in foil to rest for 2–3 minutes then slice thinly.
  6. Thinly slice lettuce; peel and grate carrots. Toss all in a bowl. Slice warmed breads in half.
  7. place everything on the table for people to build their own wraps. Fill wraps with sliced beef, salad, a dollop of homemade tomato sauce and a drizzle of yoghurt. Roll up and eat. Serve any leftover salad on the side.
