The term plant based eating is becoming more and more popular among the general population and My Food Bag is proud to be delivering the goodness, making nutritious, interesting and varied plant based eating easier than ever before. The rise of plant based eating has been driven by an increased global interest and awareness of environmental concerns and animal welfare, as well as taste preferences or for personal health and well-being. Did you know that nearly one third of My Food Bag deliveries are vegetarian or plant based? Awesome, huh! But what does the term plant based really mean?
Globally, a plant based diet is defined as a diet based on foods that are derived from plants, including vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds and fruits, with few or no animal products. Variations to a plant based diet can include vegan, vegetarian, and even extend to pescatarian, or semi-vegetarian/flexitarian – it’s all about the majority of our diet being derived from plant sources1.
In the My Food Bag Plant Based Bag you’ll find vegan ingredients for wholesome, nourishing recipes made from a bounty of nutrient dense fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds and legumes. Within My Veggie Bag you’ll find similarly wholesome recipes that also include yoghurt, eggs and haloumi from time to time. To understand why we’re so keen on using so much goodness from nature, it’s important to understand our guiding food philosophy – Nadia’s Nude Food principles.
Nude Food’s key principles:
– Eat real food – stuff that is easily recognisable from nature, that has been minimally processed. Eat less from the factories, because as soon as food starts being heavily tampered with, that’s when nutrients will be removed, often in order to prolong its shelf life.
– Trust your instincts. Most people have come to believe that some ‘expert’ knows better than themselves when it comes to what and how they should eat, and rely on them to tell them what to do (that’s why diet books by ‘diet experts’ are so popular!). The truth is, we’re all so genetically varied, that there is no one diet that fits all. YOU are your best guide.
