At My Food Bag, we’ve always believed that good food is the fuel for eating and living well. And sometimes – and in this case – it fuels history.

We’re incredibly proud to have been part of Sam Ruthe’s journey – the young Kiwi sprinter who recently became the youngest person in history to run a mile in under four minutes.

Sam and his family have been My Food Bag customers for over a decade. For ten years, we’ve delivered simple, healthy & delicious meals to their home – meals that have not only made weeknights easier by helping to take the planning and organising of nutritious, healthy meals off their hands, but has also helped lay the foundation for a future champion.

“My Food Bag always provides plenty of healthy vegetables and this has helped Sam develop a taste for healthy, nutritious, varied eating.” says Sam’s dad, Ben Ruthe. “We also really appreciate the time-saving in our busy lives knowing that healthy dinner plans are taken care of.” Sam’s favourite My Food Bag dinner? Our Build Your Own Chicken Wraps – a family-favourite for many of our foodies.

As Sam’s family put it, “My Food Bag has provided nutritious and delicious meals to Sam and our family for a decade now. The broad range of meals has helped our children develop a taste for a variety of healthy food options. With diet being one of the key ingredients to athletic performance, we have no doubt that My Food Bag has contributed to Sam’s success.

The night before that record-breaking race? It wasn’t anything fancy, it was My Food Bag’s ‘Build Your Own Vietnamese Chicken Bowl’ shared at the family table. A delicious dinner using real, healthy & nutritious ingredients the Ruthe family have come to love. As the age-old saying goes, why fix what isn’t broken?

It was our choice to fuel him with My Food Bag as his last dinner the night before becoming the world’s youngest person in history to break the 4-minute mile.” said Ben Ruthe.

From family meals to fueling world-class moments, it’s stories like Sam’s that remind us why we do what we do. We couldn’t be more thrilled for Sam and the entire Ruthe family — and we’ll be cheering loudly as he continues to chase his dreams.
