You’ve eaten avocado on your toast or in a salad, but have you tried the oil before? Here’s 3 reasons why you should give this heart healthy oil a try.
Minimally processed
The Grove’s avocado oil is extra virgin, meaning it’s the highest grade of oil. The top-quality NZ-grown avocados are cold pressed, meaning the oil is naturally extracted at low temperatures to maintain a high level of nutrients, flavour, colour and smell.
Healthy fats
Avocados and high-quality avocado oil are a top source of oleic acid, a heart healthy mono-unsaturated fat. Avocado oil has been linked to positive effects on blood pressure, cholesterol levels and overall heart health. Avocado oil is also a good source of vitamin E which a fat-soluble vitamin, meaning it needs to be consumed alongside oils or fat to be absorbed by our bodies – tick and tick!
Cooking versatility
We love heart healthy oils, but not all of these are good for high heat cooking. For example, olive oil is perfect for a salad, but it’s no good in a hot fry-pan. This is because each different type of oil has its own smoke point. A smoke point is the temperature at which the oil will begin to smoke, similar to how 100°C is the boiling point for water.
Smoking oil indicates the fat molecules are breaking down, and in turn, creating nasty free radicals. Not only do we lose any health benefits of the oil, but the free radicals or oxidants produced have harmful effects on our bodies.
Avocado oil has a much higher smoke point than other healthy oils like olive oil, meaning it’s the perfect option for high heat roasting or pan-frying, as well as being delicious over a salad. Now that’s versatility! Try using avocado oil in our Green Shakshuka and Spring Greens Salad recipes.
