For those of us who don’t have the luxury of a big kitchen (and let’s be honest, that’s most of us!) storage is a dilemma. The good news is, there are heaps of solutions for maximising the space that you have available and even creating more space! By working smarter, you can transform your kitchen from dreadful to delightful. Here are 11 ideas for organising your kitchen to make the most of it.
1. Contain Everything
Don’t underestimate the power of a good container system. Store your food in labelled glass jars for a more polished and organised approach. There are some beautiful, efficient options like Kiwi brand The Home Label that make this super easy (and visually pleasing!) to do.
2. Divide Kitchen Tools
Drawer dividers are usually used for forks, knives and spoons, but you can also adjust them to organise large, small and oddly shaped utensils. Your drawers will not only look neat and tidy, it’ll also be way easier to find what you’re looking for in a flash. No more rifling through a jumbled mess!
3. Store Pans Sideways
Sometimes, no matter how hard we try to keep our pots and pans organised, they always end up being a jumbled mess. Try stacking pans, chopping boards, lids and baking sheets horizontally to maximise space and bring some order to your cupboard.
4. Use the Walls
Free up drawer space by using walls for extra storage. For example, mount a magnetic knife holder against the wall to keep knives near your food preparation area. It’s way more convenient than having them all mixed up in a drawer.
5. Save Space with Door Hooks and Racks
Doors can actually double as handy space savers! Suspending some racks on the inside of cabinet doors is a great way to store condiments, jars and spices. Try putting in some hooks to hang your utensils, pans or chopping boards.
6. Hang Your Stemware
Follow bartenders’ lead when it comes to storing your stemware in style. Hang it underneath a cabinet and showcase your wine glasses or tuck it away inside for hidden storage.
7. Organise with Baskets and Bins
If you can’t keep things out of sight, keep them organised! Pretty baskets and containers will make all the difference when it comes to keeping items on the counter looking tidy and uncluttered.
8. Use Your Windowsills
If you have a window in your kitchen, think about how you can use the sill for storage. There are heaps of ways to utilise this space. You could use it for plants (herbs and veggies, anyone?) or stack your favourite cookbooks there, so they’re close at hand when you need them.
9. Shelf Risers
These are a great way to utilise space. Use shelf risers in your cabinets and add to your counter to double up on storage space where you can.
10. Hang a Rack on the Side of Your Fridge
If you have a fridge with an exposed side, you can use that space for storage. Simply hang a multifunctional storage rack on the side of your fridge and store stuff like tin foil, baking paper, peanut butter and other pantry items inside.
11. Rolling Trolley
Finally, you can create more storage space with the humble but super functional rolling trolley. Not only do they provide more space, but you can also move it around easily, so you have what you need close by.
